The critical challenge before the company management is to ensure safe execution of projects by external contract workers. No company can perform well unless the safety performances of the contractors are well managed. Even legally the principal employer is held responsible for any kind of incidents at the contractor site. The challenge seems to be even more daunting as the contractor is an external entity and may not be in sync with safety policy or culture of the company. The contractor usually brings his own equipment, own people with unknown habits and sometimes new methods into a company’s premises which can become potential hazards to health and safety. The best way to overcome this challenge is to create and establish a robust Contractor Safety Management system in the organisation.
Contractor safety management has evolved significantly, yet it still has a long way to go, specifically with aligning safety expectations, programs, cultures, and strategies between contractors and the client organisations that engage them.
This workshop was conducted as an initiative to help the industry to improve the standards of their workplace safety.
