Consultivo Thought Leadership: Governance, Culture and Leadership In Mines Safety

Corporate safety governance, safety culture and the role of safety leadership are interdependent and the need of the day for the Indian Mining sector. During the first technical session on the opening day, Mr Nirmal C Banerjee, (Managing Consultant, Consultivo) spoke about the 5 step Safety Governance Maturity Grid (SGMG) which starts from regulation led transactional level to people led integrated level.

This interactive workshop provided a platform converging on the multiplicity of mines and related safety issues. The programme got tremendous support from the luminaries of the mining industry.

Mr Banerjee also spoke about the symptoms or indicators by which an organisation can identify its level of maturity. He also spoke about the possible actions through which the organisation can move towards the next level of mining related safety. With his hands on industry experience of 35+ years, he also summarised the factors contributing towards a good mine and related safety culture.

His speech detailed on the safety culture of an organisation which is the product of individual and group values, attitudes, competencies and behavioural pattern. The 3-day workshop on the principles of modern safety in mines was organised by ISMAA Kolkata Chapter during 23 – 25 May 2016. This interactive mines safety workshop provided a platform converging on the multiplicity of mines safety issues. The programme got tremendous support from the luminaries of the mining industry. This mining workshop was inaugurated by chief guest Mr Rahul Guha, D.G, DGMS and Mr B. R. Reddy, CMD, SECL, the guest of honour.
